Alexander Rudenko

My name is Alexander Rudenko. I am a prepress technologist and color management specialist, founder of Printing Technology Consulting (Riga). I have been in the printing industry since 1994 and in independent practice since 2005. For more than thirty years my work has been to stop color in printing from being a lottery.

Approach

Color is not a matter of eyeballing it. It is a measurable, repeatable process. “Near enough” is not quality. Color that prints today the way it printed yesterday, and matches the approved proof, is not luck — it is the result of process discipline: numbers, tolerances and control. I bring a process to that state, and explain to the team why it works.

Until 2005 I worked in employment: a repro house, a plant running offset and flexo, an advertising agency, and a print brokerage — where I assessed print quality at the plants our orders were placed with. Over those years I passed through nearly every position in the industry and saw the same argument about color from three sides: the side that prints, the side that orders, and the side answerable to both for the result.

What I do

  • Process audit of printing operations and bringing them into conformance with ISO 12647.
  • Colorimetric adjusting of displays, proofing devices and presses — offset, flexo, digital.
  • Building ICC output profiles and DeviceLink profiles; setting up a color management system in the prepress department.
  • Training specialists and developing training courses.

I work with offset, flexo and digital printing plants, packaging producers, design studios and publishers — anywhere it matters that the file on the display, the proof and the press run speak the same language of color.
